2021 AFS Composition Competition Registration

The intention of this competition is to support and promote emerging composers of flute music, as well as to provide our members with a piece that can be easily used for at-home and virtual performances. Please carefully read the guidelines below prior to registering for the competition. 

All submitted works must be for solo flute (no accompaniment) or flute with fixed media. The 1st place winner will receive $250 and will be featured on the AFS website, newsletter, and social media platforms. Finalists will also be announced on our website, newsletter, and social media. By entering the competition, the winning composer agrees to allow AFS members to receive a free pdf copy of the winning piece (pdf will be available for download by AFS members for 1 year following the winner announcement), as well as 1 year of performance and recording rights for AFS members. The composer will retain all other rights to their composition, and all performance and recording rights will revert back to the composer 1 year after the date of the winner's announcement. 

Upon completion of competition registration, you will receive a confirmation email that includes a link to the competition application. Applications must be complete by April 11, 2021 at 11:59pm in order to be considered. The application must include a short bio (200 words or less), an uploaded copy of the score that is free from identifying markings, and a recording of the piece (may be live or midi). Composers may submit multiple applications for consideration. The fee per application is $10 (the number of "tickets" purchased during registration must match the number of applications that you intend to submit). Applicants will be notified as to whether or not they have been selected as a finalist by May 2, 2021, and finalists will be notified about their application status by June 1, 2021.
